For over 20 years, Leah has brought a fun-spirited approach to designing her client's homes throughout Boston and the South Shore. Each project is approached with a fresh eye creating unique spaces for families to enjoy for years to come. Leah believes decorating should be an adventure that confidently expresses the homeowner's authentic style.
An avid traveler, Leah collects inspiration from yearly trips to New Zealand and Australia where her husband's family resides. She regularly travels to Paris to explore the markets of Clignancourt and Porte de Vanves and has soaked up color inspiration all the way from Cuba to French Polynesia. These experiences drive Leah’s signature embrace of textiles and color.
Leah lives in the seaside town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, with her husband Jason and two children Nate and Juliet. When she is not designing her client's homes she enjoys catching the sunset on her paddle board off Bluefish Bridge.
Leah Ward designs homes that are grounded in coastal New England heritage layered with colors and patterns to bring our clients joy every day.
Q&A With Leah
-
I live in Duxbury, MA—a coastal community just south of Boston. It’s no surprise why living by the water is desired by so many. I am naturally drawn to it for both relaxation and inspiration. In fact, my personal commitment this year is to see the water every day, whether that takes the form of walking on the beach, skimming the surface of the water on my paddle board, or having dinner on the beach with friends and family! My husband is professionally involved in the fishing industry, so we spend lots of time on the water here in New England as well as in New Zealand where he is from. Leah enjoys sailing and has always been deeply inspired by that feeling of the ocean air.

Creating happy and cheerful spaces! I love seeing clients get excited about their homes.

So much comes from understanding what works in a painting when combining colors and using contrasts to their full potential.
Painting is also a great lesson in learning how to balance focal points in a space and picking intentional wow moments for maximum impact.

I love for a home to have a solid sense of place and tell the story of where you live. If this is New England by the coast, the interiors should feel like that. I work hard to preserve the original character of homes and to have the exterior and interior working together as one.

Don’t let the thought of design perfection prevent you from taking that first step. Perfection can be the enemy of fantastic warm and gracious interiors. Put the ball in motion and let your home evolve instead of just sitting there year after year thinking about your vision but being paralyzed about taking action because you have to get it “just right” out of the gate.

Textiles, travel, and art.
At Boston design center ‘surrounded by’ fabrics and wall coverings.
And definitely travel… getting out of our familiar environment exposes me to how much great design there is out in our world. I get very excited about meeting artists, furniture makers, and small lighting designers from all areas and weaving these into my client’s designs. New Zealand particularly does a beautiful job with indoor-outdoor flow and I find it very applicable to the vibe I look to create here on the South Shore.

If I’m not designing homes, I’m in the garden. Gardening cannot be rushed and there’s something very grounding in that. Within the rest of our lives, everything else moves so fast and I think that’s one of the most beautiful things about being out there with nature. It’s controlled chaos and it’s always changing.

Ahhh…the antique run. We are so fortunate to have a good selection of antique shops along the coast all the way from the Cape up to Maine. Always an exciting time, I just need a bigger car!

Both. It’s about getting the color balance just right. Having those satisfying moments of color grounded in a neutral palette.
